The 2014 growing year began with a very mild, wet winter. Temperatures well above seasonal averages led to budbreak in mid March about three weeks early. Despite this abnormal start to the year, the early budbreak was lost during the exceptionally cool, rainy summer months, which forced our growers to work hard and long. Relatively low temperatures during harvest, which began in the first week of September, meant that ripening was slow and prolonged. In the event, the process continued until the end of October for the later-ripening red varieties. Meticulous selection and lower yields per hectare enabled the red grapes to take advantage of extended ripening and well-timed picking to deliver fresh, fruit-led wines
that offer an intriguing interplay of extract, savouriness and structure.

The grapes from this unique location are handpicked once they reach perfect physiological ripeness. Spontaneously fermented in wooden barrels, after 18 days of maceration they are transferred directly to oak barriques in which this particular Lagrein then ages for 18 months.

A terrain shaped by the Talvera  river alluvial sediments, it lies at 250 m a.s.l. and its structure is made, mostly, by porphyry. Deep and sandy, well-drained and well-aerated, it tends to be a warm soil, which helps the ripening of this varietal's grape.
