THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO QUALITY
|
The "Pfarrhof" vineyard amid the beautiful hillsides directly above the
Kalterer See is a self-contained plot covering 4.5 hectares. Some of
the vines are 80 years old, so this site, situated in the heart of the
Kalterer See wine-producing region, can guarantee high-class wines.
The very strict, internal, quality-orientated guidelines established by
the wine-producers deal with issues such as pruning, top-dressing
and harvesting which have over the years contributed towards the
devolopment of first-class products.
When planting new vines, growers give serious condiseration to the
effects of the micro-climate on the condition of the soil, the position
and the way in which the vines are trained. Grape varieties such as
Blauburgunder Cabernet or Chardonnay are no longer grown up the
classical pergola, but trained along wires with 5,000 to 6,000 vines
per hectare.
Weak growths that give a poor yield but provide a harmonious
environment are left as a matter of course.
Certain plots, vineyards and areas are designated as "Campaner" a
sign of quality. These wines form the basis of our production
philosophy. A small selection of young and dynamic wine-producers
came together under the leadership of our oenologist and formed
what is known as a "quality group". Their one aim is the production of
highclass wines.
The owner of the land is no longer seen as a producer of grapes, but
a producer of wines. A wide variety of individual fermentation
methods and on-going sampling are employed- discussions, meetings and advice have motivated these wine
producers to achieve the maximum from their vineyards. The success and the high quality they
have achieved are a testament to this initiative.
