South Tyrol: What a luck!
For the 100th anniversary of the Kaltern Winery the
South Tyrolean writer Joseph Zoderer composed for us the following poem:
»Every home country is the most beautiful like every
mother is the dearest. But there are also some exceptions, like for example a
really beautiful home country, a really dear mother. And that's also what I
think about this home country. Ice-skating instead of drinking wine - this
exception does exist here, certainly for one or more weeks in winter, yet even
then the vineyards are so immensely feminine and there are the incorrigible ones
who claim that God's garden has always been here - with this mild Mediterranean
air under the snowy summits of the Tyrolean mountains. And the grapes are so
ripe. Besides there are still men running around with (blue) loincloth and not
expecting their speck- plate and bottle containing the divine drops to be taken
away from them. For me an exception, for others it is normal.« - Joseph
Zoderer,
writer, Walther von
der Vogelweide prize winner 2005
