Our history

Cantina Kaltern boasts a rich history spanning over a century. It has taken generations of dedication to shape our winery into what it represents today: professionalism, passion, community spirit, experience, and the highest quality standards.
Today, Cantina Kaltern stands as one of the leading wineries in Alto Adige, with Kaltern proudly recognized as the most popular and renowned wine village in the region.

From 1900 to Today

Catina Kaltern makes history

The history of Cantina Kaltern dates back to the early 20th century, a time marked by long, difficult years of war and the separation of Alto Adige from Austria. During this period, Caldaro’s five wineries experienced many changes: from proud days as official suppliers to the Vienna court, through economic crises and boom times, to mergers and a steady focus on quality wine-growing.
Today, Cantina Kaltern is a cooperative with 530 members managing 420 hectares of vineyards.

„Our vineyards have been in my family’s care for generations.“

Monika Mayr – teacher & winegrower

As a child, I helped my grandfather with the harvest, and later, I worked alongside my father. Both have since passed away, but when I’m working in the vineyards, I always feel a special connection to them. It’s a comforting feeling to know that my ancestors did the same work, in the same place.
