With the 2018 vintage, Cantina Kaltern became the first Italian wine producer and the first cooperative to be awarded FAIR’N GREEN’s Certificate for Sustainable Viticulture. We are thus in good company with such prominent wineries as Clemens Busch, St. Urbans-Hof, Künstler, Philipp Kuhn, Meyer-Näkel, Heymann-Löwenstein, and Dönnhoff.
FAIR’N GREEN supports wineries and winegrowers in setting clear, measurable, and verifiable sustainability goals and achieving them in a holistic manner. The program covers key areas including business management, environmental protection, social responsibility, and the entire value chain.
The FAIR’N GREEN standard requires every winery to implement processes that continuously improve all aspects of their operations— from vineyard management and cellar practices to marketing—under a comprehensive sustainability strategy. Wineries receive regular expert guidance and follow a tailored development plan created during certification. Additionally, in-depth analyses such as life cycle assessments and carbon footprint calculations are conducted.
To earn the FAIR’N GREEN seal, wineries must meet rigorous minimum standards and demonstrate ongoing, binding progress each year. Independent institutions verify the certification process to ensure it meets strict scientific criteria.
Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate culture, reflected in all areas, including sales and customer relations. In addition to producing high-quality wines, we strive for long-term partnerships with our customers and are actively committed to protecting our environment.
The main objectives of FAIR’N GREEN are environmental protection and near-natural viticulture, as well as the promotion of biodiversity and the protection of natural resources. The label is also designed to ensure fair wages, social commitment, and responsibility. The preservation and development of the cultural landscape is another major concern. As a result, wine lovers can enjoy wines that are of excellent quality and have been produced under conditions that reflect a sense of responsibility toward both humankind and nature.
