Details of the location

The grapes come from selected Chardonnay vineyards located at mid to high elevations in Kaltern, between 400 and 530 metres above sea level. The predominantly east-facing slopes benefit from cool morning temperatures and a long growing season. The soils are characterised by calcareous scree as well as glacial deposits of gravel and sand with dolomite components. Deep, well-aerated and free-draining soils provide ideal conditions for structured wines with tension and precision.

From grape to wine

The grapes are whole-bunch pressed, followed by natural sedimentation. Fermentation and ageing take place in barriques for twelve months, around 40% of which are new, with continuous bâtonnage. A portion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. After barrel ageing, the wine rests for a further six months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

The wine in the glass

− clear straw yellow
− complex bouquet with citrus notes and a hint of exotic fruit, elegantly supported by subtle oak nuances
− on the palate, full-bodied and linear, driven by taut, cool mineral tension; fresh and refined texture with a long, saline and precise finish

The perfect accompaniment

A versatile food wine, well suited to fish dishes, shellfish, white meats and refined Mediterranean cuisine. Thanks to its structure and balance, the wine also shows good ageing potential and gains further depth and complexity with additional bottle maturation.

The origin of this wine

For a long time, no distinction was made between the Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay grape varieties, as they are virtually indistinguishable visually Chardonnay has been cultivated in Alto Adige for around 150 years and is one of the most important white wine varieties.
